Integration
Verify your Mailchimp audience before you send
Mailchimp already sorts contacts into Subscribed, Unsubscribed, Non-subscribed, and Cleaned — but Unsubscribed and Non-subscribed contacts still count toward your plan's paid contact limit even though they can no longer receive a campaign. Verifying your audience with Bounceless before you export a segment for a send, or before you import a new one, catches invalid and disposable addresses while they are still rows in a CSV, not bounces against your account or dead weight on your bill.
How it works
Steps are sourced from Mailchimp's official documentation (reference) and have not yet been walked on a live Mailchimp account by a Bounceless team member — treat exact menu labels as indicative until this note is removed.
When to run it
Common questions
Does this replace the Cleaned status Mailchimp already tracks?
No, it works ahead of it. Mailchimp marks an address Cleaned only after it has actually hard-bounced or repeatedly soft-bounced on a real campaign, which means the damage to your sender reputation already happened. Bounceless checks addresses before you send, so invalid mailboxes can be removed or archived while they are still rows in a CSV instead of becoming a Cleaned contact and a bounce on your record.
Who in my Mailchimp account can complete this export/re-import loop?
Exporting an audience in Mailchimp is restricted to accounts with the Owner or Admin role, so whoever runs this workflow needs one of those roles to reach Export Audience in the first place. Uploading the file to Bounceless and re-importing the cleaned CSV afterward uses the same Mailchimp import permissions your team already relies on for normal list uploads, so no extra Mailchimp access is required beyond that.
Will importing the clean CSV as Subscribed cause any compliance issues?
That depends on your own list, not on Bounceless. Mailchimp requires that you already have permission to email anyone you import with a Subscribed status, and Bounceless verification only confirms an address is deliverable, not that the recipient opted in. If you are re-importing your own existing audience after cleaning it, the original opt-in still applies; for a newly acquired list, keep the status as Non-subscribed or Unsubscribed until you have consent.
